Description
Riding Box cart. This contraption was often constructed by the young men in their respect villages, initially to carry water and other heavy loads but quickly became an instrument of play. At most times, made out of scrap wood their engineering was rudimentary at best however, some were skillfully crafted machines. The wheels were almost always made from ball bearings from discarded car or engine parts. They were metal and had no rubber for traction which made them skid along the asphalt roads on which they were ridden. Many a day kids bore the pain and scars of a ever so thrilling ride on one of these and I was no exception to that fact. Nevertheless, a successful voyage down the neighborhood hill would only give way to the shout of “let’s do that again” and once more we would busy ourselves up the hill to repeat the cycle.
